Guest Blogger—Susan Kelly, Richmond Animal League
The Richmond Animal League (RAL) is proud to announce that ninety-two cents of every dollar donated by the community is spent directly on its animal-related programs and endeavors. Derived from RAL’s most recent audited financial statements, this extremely high percentage is a tribute the organization’s commitment to provide excellent medical and emotional care to the 800+ animals that pass through their doors every year.
With a staff of 6 and a volunteer force exceeding 450, RAL is able to keep their overhead costs low and divert money directly to the animals they care for everyday. Donations are spent on animal-related needs such as basic medical care and vaccinations, spay and neuter surgeries, food and shelter, and special treatments for animals that arrive sick, injured and emotionally scarred.
With RAL’s upcoming opening of their new Loving Spay + Neuter Clinic, donor dollars will also go to support the effort to provide sterilization surgeries for the public’s animals. RAL relies solely on public donations, grants and fundraising activities to continue rescuing homeless animals and finding them new homes. Donations are accepted in person, in the mail or online at www.ral.org.
Established in 1979, Richmond Animal League is the area’s oldest non-profit “no-kill” organization committed to reducing the homeless pet population in the Richmond area. The Richmond Animal League has provided shelter and love to hundreds of companion animals each year until they can be adopted into permanent and loving homes.
